Garage Sale Finds

Didn't find much today in my treasure hunt, but I only spent $12 on evertyhing. The bag above is not vintage, but I think it's pretty cool and it was only $1.

I found this cute glass dome with wood plate.

 And this pretty vintage tray.

I had to get this suitcase when I saw it. Do you like my lovely model? She was falling asleep on the job.

Lovely vintage purse

They threw this in for free with the suitcase. It's a little worn out, but I like it.

Another pretty vintage purse.

Tonight we went out for sushi and bought the X-box Kinect. It seems like a great way to get in a fun workout. Do any of you ladies have the Kinect? What games do you like?

Giveaway winner will be announced tomorrow. Good luck!

Garage Sale Finds

First...
Check out the awesome giveaway Rubyellen is doing over at her blog Cakies. Enter for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate for Ms Tips Etsy shop. She has a lot of great affordable vintage items.

My Finds
I've been going to more estate sales than garage sales. That's where I find the most vintage things. It can be sad going through someone's house that you know just passed away, especially if their family is there. You get to walk through their house, go through their closets, and take their things. I like to think that I'm giving their things a good home.

Here are some lovely things I brought home on Saturday.

See that 1984 book by George Orwell? First Edition for 50 cents!

In Doggy News

On Friday, Lia had surgury to remove one of her back toes. She had a bone infection from a previous injury (we adopted her from the shelter). She has to wear the cone for 10 days, even at night. Tomorrow we take her in for a check up to see how the foot is healing. Poor baby.

Garage Sale Finds

It is my goal to open an Etsy shop and sell my vintage findings. Until then I'll share them here with you!

A vintage expandable wood ruler with brass.

A Spanish Textbook from 1946

My Friend Flicka and Thunderhead First Editions: 1941 & 1943

Meta Given's Modern Encyclopedia of Cooking  1956

Business Filing 1943, with neat pictures

Vintage Thermos and syrup dispenser

A huge role of newspapers from 1945 & 1946 (My dog Evie taking a snif)

I bought a lot more than pictured here, but I didn't want this post to be super long. It was a very successful day.

I've been doing a lot of thrifting and garage sales lately and I wanted to share some things I've learned:

1) Bring hand wipes- your hands will get visibly dirty from touching everything
2) If you see something you like, but are not sure you want it, carry it around with you. If you set it down, it will be gone when you go back for it. (This has happened a few times!)
3) The earlier you go, the better things you will find.
4) I find my garage/estate sales on Craigslist. I'll copy all the information into a word document and organize them by location or what they are selling.

**Note about my bangs in this previous post. A few of you in your comments thought that I cut my own bangs. I actually had a stylist cut them. If you want short bangs like that, I would recommend having a professional do it. Bangs are so easy to screw up!

The Story of a Mink Coat

I spotted this beautiful vintage lady in a closet at an estate sale. I knew I couldn't afford it, but I asked the price anyway. I was told it $75, but that the owner may go for $50. Not bad I thought, but I wasn't going to spend $75. I decided to leave her in the closet for someone else to take her home.

When got home, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I did some research on the label I saw: Emba- The American Mink. Turns out, this coat may be worth enough to make a profit on. I talked with my husband and he gave me the ok to buy it if I could get it for $50 and if it was still there. I was so anxious driving back to that house. I prepared myself not to be disappointed if the coat was gone. I walked in the house and into the room. There she was, hanging beautifully! I held my breath as I asked the lowest price he would take for it. $50!! Sold!

I hope you all have a great weekend. I'm so happy it's Friday.  I leave you with a clip from one of my favorite shows: The Office. This clip always makes me laugh. I love Jim's face at the end.

Garage Sales and New Haircut!

What did you do today? Well I scored some vintage stuff at garage sales and got my hair colored and a new cut. I'd say it was a good day :)

At one estate sale, I walked into a bedroom and the bed was covered with vintage purses that were only $2 each. I squealed a little on the inside! I took home 7 of the best ones. I'm hoping to start selling vintage items and clothes once I get a good collection going. Here's a few of the purses. I might keep one for myself!

I've never had bangs, so this is new for me. Not sure if I like them yet. My natural hair color is brown, but the tips were really light from the last time I colored it. I normally cut my own hair, but this time I went to a stylist.

My husband hasn't seen my new look yet. He's out fishing for lobster. I hope he likes my hair!
