I will never forget...

My husband use to be a bomb technician in the Marine Corps. It's their job to get rid of the bombs and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device). Many of his friends have been killed, and many others have lost limbs and hands. Most of his really good friends he has today he met at the the military hospital here in San Diego when he was injured. Luckily, he still has all his limbs because his injuries were internal. I personally know about 5 of his friends who had amputations and are using prosthetic limbs, and I knew one that was killed. They are great guys and I love hanging out with them. I'm a better person for knowing them.

Now for the worst part....

Last Sunday, Mr. Brilliant found out that one of his friends was killed in Afghanistan. He was survived by a wife and two young children. His wife asked Mr. Brilliant to be a pall-bearer at the funeral. Tomorrow the young man will be flown into the states and the funeral will be on Monday. That is why he has been preparing his uniform pictured up above. It makes me sad and angry all at once, but thankful for my country and those who sacrifice everything. I mean EVERYTHING. I personally know how the war has affected my husband and I, but mine got to come home in one piece. So many wives will never get to kiss their husbands ever again.

I just wish more people would acknowledge the deaths. You never really hear about them on the news.

The video below is a new one from Jason Mraz. A couple we know is in the video. He lost his right leg and part of his right arm. You'll see him at 2:33 and then both of them dancing together at 3:25. The song is so amazing and speaks of not giving up on each other during hard times. I posted the lyrics below.

I Won't Give Up

When I look into your eyes
It's like watching the night sky
Or a beautiful sunrise
There's so much they hold
And just like them old stars
I see that you've come so far
To be right where you are
How old is your soul?

I won't give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up

And when you're needing your space
To do some navigating
I'll be here patiently waiting
To see what you find

'Cause even the stars they burn
Some even fall to the earth
We've got a lot to learn
God knows we're worth it
No, I won't give up

I don't wanna be someone who walks away so easily
I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make
Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use
The tools and gifts we got yeah, we got a lot at stake
And in the end, you're still my friend at least we did intend
For us to work we didn't break, we didn't burn
We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in
I had to learn what I've got, and what I'm not
And who I am

I won't give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up
Still looking up.

I won't give up on us (no I'm not giving up)
God knows I'm tough enough (I am tough, I am loved)
We've got a lot to learn (we're alive, we are loved)
God knows we're worth it (and we're worth it)

I won't give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up

I will never forget....Thank you.

  2. That is such a beautiful song. My friend actually used it in her wedding. I agree that more people should acknowledge the deaths. Unfortunately, (in my opinion) it all became political and people would rather put the blame on authority figures instead of focusing on the reality that we still have a war happening. So sorry for you and your husband's loss.

  3. Wow! This is so sobering Breeanna.. Thanks for sharing.. Truly! Sometimes I get so caught up in my own little world and its menial problems...yet there's so many people who have lost so much..who have sacrificed sooooooo much... I'm so glad your husband is in one piece (although I think you've mentioned before that he has back problems right?)and I'm sincerely thankful for what he (and you) has done for our country... So thankful!

  4. Oh goodness. That is so sad. We forget our heros so easily. I think we should hear much more about them and their stories.
